Interview Tips

Presentation

Ensure that you present yourself in a tidy and professional manner. A good guide is to always dress as you would expect your manager to dress. If you are not sure, it is best to dress up, rather than dress down. If possible, undertake a reconnaissance before the interview to determine the required standard.

Body Language

Your body language also contributes towards that impression you give to the interviewer. Shake hands confidently and professionally at the start and at the finish of the interview. Maintain eye contact when communicating. Lastly - don't forget to smile!

Know your Interviewer and the Organisation

The interviewer already knows all about you from your resume and it is equally important for you to know all about your potential employer. Find out about their area of operations or business, what department you will be working in and what will be expected of you as an employee of the organisation.

Preparing for Interview Questions

You should read over the job specifications and gain an understanding of the questions the interviewer may ask you. Be prepared for the "tell me something about you" question; answer with a short professional response summarising your recent career experience.

Punctuality

Ensure that you know exactly where and when to be at the interview and who you will be interviewed by. You are forming a first and lasting impression, so it is important that you are not late (or flustered because you had trouble finding the location).

Resume Advice

Your resume is a key tool in the job application process, outlining your relevant experience and qualifications to prospective employers. Your chances of securing an interview is largely based on the information contained in your resume, however you should try to prevent the document from becoming too lengthy. Ensure information presented in your resume is quantified (supply details, numbers etc) and most importantly that the information is relevant and can be readily evidenced.

If you do not have a current resume and would like to develop one, you may like to use our resume template to assist you in the development process.
