Print this pageCommunity Involvement
We are committed to building mutually beneficial relationships with the local community. These relationships have developed over the past eight years and are a reflection of our focus on supporting the Darwin community.
Our work reaches out to include financial and in-kind assistance to various Territory based community welfare and support organisations, including:
The Salvation Army
The Salvation Army provides friendship, support, care and service to the local Darwin community.
With a local presence in Darwin, Palmerston, Kununurra and Katherine, the Salvos manage invaluable services including:
- The Red Shield Hostel
- Catherine Booth House and Women’s Crisis Services
- The Sunnie Centre (homelessness, alcoholism and drug addiction)
- The Flying Padre
- Towards Independence (transitional housing and outreach support program)
- Family tracing services.
Avant supports the Salvation Army through regular contributions. Most recently we donated the funds saved through the use of electronic Christmas cards and we have donated computer and other office equipment. In addition, Avant’s Director, Alison Hucks, currently serves on the Salvation Army NT Advisory Board.
Dragons Abreast
Dragons Abreast promotes a message of education, hope and awareness of breast cancer. They assist individuals recovering from breast cancer treatment in making the transition back into a full and active life via participation in a dragon boat program.
Avant supports Dragons Abreast through the provision (at cost) of temporary staffing solutions and regular donations.
St John Ambulance Australia NT Inc.
St John Ambulance Australia NT is a self-funding charitable organisation active in the Northern Territory, dedicated to helping people in sickness, distress, suffering or danger.
Avant has successfully raised well over $25,000 for St John Ambulance Australia NT through the ‘Avant Hit and Giggle’ Ladies Charity Golf Day, and have provided recruitment assistance at cost.
Environment
Avant is dedicated to providing a sustainable and green future for the next generation of Territorians through the adoption of environmentally responsible policies and practices.
Over the past two years the Avant team (lead by our environmental champion Wendy) has reduced paper usage by over 50%. Paper usage has been driven down through the following initiatives:
- changing all printer-defaults to two sided printing
- raising awareness and encouraging personnel to print less and scan more
- electronically invoicing clients and providing pay advice to candidates
- Further green initiatives include:
- using 100% recycled envelopes and paper in all office printers and photocopiers
- making the switch to environmentally friendly cleaning products which are readily biodegradable and non-alkaline
- using 100% recycled office consumables (folders, note pads etc.)
- major and ongoing IT capital expenditure, allowing staff to work from home negating the need for travel to and from work (carbon and associated reductions in paper and other consumables).
